Are you ready for an unforgettable experience in Chobe, Botswana!

Famed for some of the world’s largest herds of massive elephants, Chobe National Park in Botswana’s far northeastern corner is one of the great wildlife destinations of Africa. Of the three major wildlife-watching areas in the park, Chobe Riverfront supports the largest wildlife concentration, with huge buffalo and elephant herds, large lion prides, and an abundance of hippos and other animals.

Clothing

Botswana is hot in November so our advice is to pack lightweight, loose-fitting clothes in natural fabrics such as linen, silk, bamboo and cotton that will keep you cool. Muted colours are best for game viewing.

The most practical items to pack for your bush adventure include:

  • Lightweight long-sleeved shirts that offer protection from the sun and mosquitoes.
  • T-shirts.
  • Shorts or lightweight skirts.
  • Jeans or safari trousers for the evenings.
  • A lightweight waterproof jacket in case of rain.
  • Comfortable walking shoes.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, insect repellent, moisturiser and lip balm.
  • Binoculars and camera equipment.

Medical

Malaria precaution

Chobe lies in a high-risk malaria zone, so it is advisable to take antimalarial medication. Additionally, remember to pack insect repellent (containing at least 30% DEET) and long-sleeve shirts and trousers for the evening. Consult with your doctor or travel clinic about the best antimalarial medication to take.

Money Matters

The currency in Botswana is the pula. South African rand is widely accepted. Visa and MasterCard are usually accepted throughout Botswana, while American Express and Diners Club are not accepted.
